Ziele/Ideen

Solutions for urban mobility problems that ‘work’ in the particular reality of a Living Lab may not be adopted at a large scale. Urban infrastructure is interwoven with the daily lives of citizens and therefore difficult to change, and large groups may not even have access to ICT-based solutions. These run the risk of being excluded.

Kurzbeschreibung

The ‘Smart City Living Lab (LL)’ is an emerging approach in European cities. It brings together citizens, policymakers, businesses, and researchers to test smart, ICT-based solutions to urban problems in real-life contexts. Our project developed a novel, ‘smarter’ LL approach that was tested and refined by action research in Living Lab experiments in the cities of Graz, Bellinzona, Brussels, and Maastricht.

Resultate

We have produced a concise 'toolkit' with the 10 guidelines for Smart City Living Labs. It is available in 5 languages (German, English, French, Italian and Dutch) and we have currently handed out about 200 toolkits among urban practitioners. We have confidence that this will make urban experiments in many cities more inclusive and better anticipating upscaling. It has also been adopted in the recent Smart City Guidance Package.
